Harmony Montgomery, 7, Missing for 2 Years before Reported Missing

Harmony Montgomery, 7, was reported missing in November 2021, even though she had not been seen in about two years.

Harmony’s biological mother, Crystal Sorey, had lost custody of her daughter in July 2018 due to substance use. Crystal had lost contact with the father of Harmony, Adam Montgomery, 31.

Crystal got clean and made numerous attempts to locate her daughter since 2018. She had contacted schools and addresses she knew to be associated with her husband. Adam had blocked her on all forms of social media and would not take her phone calls. The last time Crystal had any contact with her daughter was on Easter 2019. According to the affidavit, Crystal said Harmony seemed frightened and she could see Adam in the background.

Crystal reported Harmony missing in November 2021. Five weeks later, on 12/27/2021, the Department of Children Youth & Families (DYCF) told police they could not locate Harmony. The Manchester Police Department then launched an investigation for the missing child. Investigators attempted to talk to friends and family members of Adam to establish the last time Harmony was seen and to locate her physically.

Adam’s brother, Michael Montgomery, told investigators that he was “super short” with his daughter. Michael stated he was scared for Harmony’s safety, especially once he learned from a family member that Adam had given her a black eye.

Kevin Montgomery, Adam’s uncle, knew of the black eye and told investigators he reported it to DYCF in July 2019. Kevin told investigators what Adam told him when he asked about it. Adam stated, “I bashed her around this house.” Harmony, who would have been five at that time, was left to watch her infant brother. While in her care, the infant started crying, and Harmony put her hand over his mouth to stop him from crying. Once Adam saw this, he became angry and hit her in the face. Kevin also recalled other strict forms of punishment, such as hard spankings, being forced to stand in the corner for hours, and ordering Harmony to clean the toilet with her toothbrush.

Kayla Montgomery, Adam’s current wife, was interviewed on December 31, 2021. She has three children with Adam (all are accounted for) told investigators the last time she had physically seen Harmony was in November or December 2019. Kayla told police she believed Harmony went back to live with her mother; she had not seen or heard about Harmony since the last day she saw her. When investigators asked Kayla if she saw Harmony with a black eye, she told them yes; Adam told her one of the other children threw a toy at her. Kayla told investigators she had not seen Adam since October 2021 and the last time she spoke to him was in November 2021.

Police located Adam on 12/31/2021 sleeping in a car with his romantic partner, Kelsey Small. Small explained she knew that Adam had four children, 3 from one relationship, and 1 from another. Adam told small he did not have any contact with his oldest child or her mother.

Investigators noticed inconsistent statements when interviewing Adam. Adam had first stated he had seen Harmony recently, and she was fine. Later, during the interview, he stated he had not seen Harmony since Thanksgiving 2019, when Crystal picked her up. Investigators stressed that all they wanted was to ensure Harmony was alive and safe, since nobody had seen her in about two years. According to the affidavit, “Adam did not exhibit much emotion or reaction to this”. He said that Harmony was with Crystal. He then stated if he was not under arrest, he was leaving. Adam was not placed under arrest at this time.

On January 5, 2022, police arrested Adam and charged him with:

  • Second Degree Assault
  • 2 counts of Endangering the Welfare of a Child under 18
  • Interference with Custody

Adam is being held without bail.

Harmony is still missing. Though police have been seen searching the yard in Harmony’s house, Manchester police are treating this case as a rescue mission and not a recovery mission, “For now, we have to operate under the assumption that she is alive and well somewhere, and that somebody knows something,” a detective told the news.

Currently, there is a $43,000 reward for anyone who has information about her disappearance. Call or text 603-203-6060 with any information.
