The Disappearance Lashaya Stine

In the early hours of July 15, 2016, Lashaya Stine went missing from Aurora, Colorado. She has not been heard from since. Her family, the police, and the FBI are still searching for Lashaya.

Background

Lashaya Stine, 16, was an honors student who attended George Washington High School. She was planning her prom and had plans to go to college to study nursing.

On July 15, 2016, Lashaya Stine, 16, left her home around 2:00a.m, without her mom’s knowledge. The last time she was seen around 2:23 a.m. on security footage on Montview Boulevard and N. Peoria Street, near a bus stop.

Investigation

According to the FBI, Lashaya had a job interview on July 16, 2016, but never showed up. At first, police believed she may have run away. After investigating, they determined she most likely was not a runaway. According to CBS News, Lashaya had left her wallet, phone charger, and clothing behind. Investigators believe Lashaya may have left to meet up with someone. According to Fox31, investigators stated they have received information that leads them to believe Lashaya’s case “is a little different.” They did not disclose the information they received. They also reported her social media accounts have been inactive, and she has not contacted any of her friends.

Since Lashaya’s disappearance, police have released the CCTV that captured the last time she was seen.

There have been various tips since Lashaya went missing; police followed up on each one, but none lead to the whereabouts of Lashaya. According to The Denver Post, Lashaya’s mother, Sabrina Jones, thinks she may be a victim of human trafficking. Sabrina told The Denver Post, there have been tips stating Lashaya was seen with a woman who recruits woman to be human trafficked. Police have not substantiated any theory and have not ruled anything out.

In November 2020, Aurora Police and the FBI searched the home on the 2200 block of Lansing Street in Aurora, Colorado. According to The Denver Post, investigators “used jackhammers, concrete saws, and other heavy equipment” during their search. Investigators searched the home, which is located 13 blocks from where Lashaya was last seen, for 3 days. Police have not stated if they had found any evidence of Lashaya during the search.

Description

At the time of her disappearance, Lashaya Stine, 16, was 5’7”, she weighed 150lbs. and had long black hair and brown eyes. Lashaya also has a scar the size of a quarter on her chest. Investigators have made a composite of what she may look like at 19 years old.

Aftermath

Investigators are still searching for Lashaya and following up all leads they receive. They are offering a reward of $15,000 for anyone with information that leads to the whereabouts of Lashaya.
