The Murder of Iliana “Lilly” Peters

On April 24, 2022, Iliana “Lilly” Peters, 10, was reported missing by her father after not returning to her Chippewa Falls, Wisconsin, home. Her body was found on April 25, 2022.

Reported Missing

On April 24, 2022, Lilly Peters visited her aunt’s home in the 400 block of N. Grove St. When she had not arrived at her house in the 50 blocks of E. Birch Street, her father reported her missing at 9:00 p.m. Police immediately started a search of the immediate surrounding areas.

In the late evening, police were notified that a bike that belonged to Lilly in the woods nearby her aunt’s house. The bike was found on a walking trail at the end of N. Grove Street. Police used dogs to search the area, conducted door-to-door searches, and followed up with friends and family, but did not uncover any leads.

Iliana Peters is Found

Around 9:15 a.m. on April 25, 2022, police found the body of Lilly Peters in the woods, close to where her bike was found.

Police have not stated how Lilly has died but are treating her death as a homicide.

Arrest

On April 26, 2022, police executed a search warrant at Lilly’s aunt’s house, and arrested a teenager. Police have not released the name of the teenager arrested.

The suspect was a 14 year old male referred to in court by “C P-B”. According to the prosecutor, Lilly was punched in the stomach, which knocked her to the ground. The suspect then hit Lilly with a stick. He continued to rape and strangle her. The prosecutor told the courts that the 14-year-old had the intention to commit this crime when he left the house (Lilly’s aunt’s house) with the victim.
 
He has been charged with first degree intentional homicide, first degree sexual assault, and first degree sexual assault of a child under age 13 resulting in great bodily harm.
 
Suspect is due back in court on May 5, 2022.
