Garcia was initially arrested on May 4, 2021, for a warrant that was already out for his arrest for an unrelated manner. He was wearing the same clothing he had on during the murder, had cuts on his hands, and blood on him. Investigators also found a double-edge blade in the garbage. After being arrested, investigators interviewed Garcia, who did not offer up any information about the murder. He was booked on the unrelated charge.
