The Murder of Joseph McAtee
On April 20, 2022, Nathan McAtee called 911 to report that he had stabbed and killed his 11-year-old brother, Joseph McAtee, in their Windham, Ohio, home.
Police received a 911 call at 1:44 a.m. Police later identified the caller as Nathan McAtee, who told the operator, “I just killed my brother.” McAtee continued telling the operator to come get him; he will wait for officers before disconnecting.
When police responded to the apartment on Cloverleaf Road in Windham, Ohio, they found 11-year-old Joseph McAtee with multiple stab wound. According to news outlets, McAtee stabbed his brother in his neck, back, and stomach.
It is unclear what provoked the attack. In a now deleted Facebook post left of the Record Courier’s page, Herschel McAtee wrote that Nathan McAtee was schizophrenic, but this has not been confirmed. It is also unclear who else was in the home when the murder occurred.
He has been charged with aggravated murder and is being held on $1 million bond.
