The Murder of Rachel Morin

On August 5, 2023, Rachel Morin was murdered after going for a walk on a local trail in Bel Air, Maryland. A Samaritan found her body the following day. Police have linked her murder with an attack that took place in March in Los Angeles.            

Background 

Rachel Morin left her home a bit before 6p.m., to take an evening walk along a local, popular trail near her home in Bel Air, Maryland. When she did not return home, her boyfriend reported her missing at 11:23 p.m. Investigators found her car parked in the trail’s lot, where she was walking. 

Rachel Morin is Found 

On August 6, 2023, just after 1p.m., a Samaritan called 911 and reported they had found a woman’s body near the Ma & Pa trail she had been walking on. Investigators reported Rachel was “violently murdered”, though they did not state the cause of death. 

According to the Daily Mail, Michael Gabriszeski was the man who found Rachel, Rachel. In an interview, he told the Daily Mail, “She was laying on her back, fully naked, and she had brutal head trauma…it looked like her head had been smashed in with a rock. There was a 15 to 20-foot blood trail. So, it looked like she had been beaten and dragged into that position.’

Investigation

The investigation shifted from a missing person to a homicide. Investigators spoke with Rachel’s boyfriend and immediate family. They also spoke to 5 people who were on the trail between 6:30 and 7p.m. on August 5, 2023. 

Investigators also announced DNA found during their investigation has been linked to a home invasion, where a young girl was assaulted, which occurred in Los Angeles in March. During the attack, investigators believe they caught the suspect on a Ring doorbell camera. They believe the suspect is in his 20s, about 5’9”, and about 160lbs. Police do not have any other information about the suspect. 

Since the murder, police have received many tips, which they have been following up on.
