The Murder of Telyn McAlpin

On November 28, 2020, Telyn McAlpin, 17, was shot and killed in Asheville, North Carolina. His suspected killer, Dionate Whitson, 19, has been on the run. His family and friends are asking for help in finding him.  

Before 9:00 a.m. Telyn McAlpin, 17, was shot in near the Montford baseball field and the Tempie Avery Montford Center. Medics rushed Telyn to the hospital, where he would succumb to his wounds.  

Through their investigation, police have identified two teenagers in connection with the murder of Telyn; a 16-year-old male, who has not been identified and Dionate Whitson, 19. The 16-year-old has been apprehended. Whitson, who has been charged with first degree murder, has been evading law enforcement.

Telyn and Whitson were friends. It is not clear what the motive was.

U.S. Marshals are offering $10,000 for any information leading to the arrest of Dionate Whitson, 19. Officials say Whitson has connections to Greenville, Charlotte, Ashville, and Atlanta. They say it is possible he is living among the homeless population in one of these cities. Whitson is 5’7” and weighs 150lbs.
