The Murder of Wanda Paoli
On April 28, 2022, Anthony Dibella called the police to report that he stabbed his sister, Wanda Paoli, 67, to death because she was a witch.
Anthony Dibella and his sister Wanda Paoli were living with their elderly mother at 6782 Failing Shores Lane, Lyme, New York.
On April 28, 2022, police received a call from Dibella, who told the operator he was killing his sister. Dibella stated, “Wanda Paoli is being killed, she is a witch, killed with a knife and awl, and is currently on the porch.”
Police arrived on scene around 11:30 a.m. and found Wanda bleeding to death on the porch. Medics attempted to save her, but she died of multiple stab wounds. Dibella used a bayonet and an awl to stab his sister multiple times in the head, neck, and face. (An awl is a small sharp pointed tool used for leather, similar to an ice pick). Their mother was found unharmed in the home.
News reports state after the attack, Dibella called his brother, Russell Dibella, and told him he had killed Wanda by stabbing her in the head.
When police asked Dibella about the murder, he stated, “I was done with her witchcraft; ” “I had to do what I did to her because she was getting in the way of me communicating to God;” and “People are worshipping rocks and dirt instead of God.”
Anthony Dibella has been charged with first degree murder and two counts of criminal possession of a weapon.
